Hayden Panettiere reduced her mother to tears when she got a tattoo without her permission.

The Heroes actress only got the tattoo done a year ago and kept it hidden from her parent.

She says, “It’s a Leo symbol on my ankle. My mom didn’t see it for ages.”

The tattoo didn’t remain a secret for a long as an acting job intervened, revealing the hidden body art.

She continues: “Then, I was being body-scanned for a special effect on ‘Heroes.’ And she saw it, tried to rub it off and suddenly she realized. Her eyes welled up.”

Hayden Panettiere has not always sported long flowing locks - she spent the first three years of her life bald.

The Heroes actress admits her follicle growth was slower than most tots.

She says, “I was completely bald until I was three. My mother had to tie bows around my head so that I wouldn’t scare other children.”

Now, Panettiere has no plans to lose her blonde hair, saying: “I don’t think it would be very flattering.”

Hayden Panettiere was thrilled to play a cheerleader in Heroes because she missed out on the chance to be one in real life. The 18-year-old actress has been acting since she was tiny and was forced to leave school at a young age to work on film sets.

She says, “I was so lucky to be popped into the cheerleader’s outfit. I was never a cheerleader because I left school at the age of 16, then I made a film in Africa and after that I was schooled at home.”
